Carly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate who works with individuals, couples and partnerships. Whatever you may be struggling with, Carly considers it an honor to hear your story and to help you re-write it in a way that empowers you. Carly invites clients to take a collaborative approach when working with her, as she believes therapy is most successful when clients have an active role in setting their own goals. Carly strives to be a culturally competent therapist, considering clients’ identity, sexual orientation, race, gender, ethnicity, and other aspects of diversity and intersectionality in the therapy process. Her work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Feminist Therapy and Narrative, among other approaches.
Carly works with couples/partnerships who feel “stuck” in their patterns within the relationship find new ways of interacting with each other that promote and restore connection, empathy, and intimacy. Her style has been described as “gentle yet firm”- she takes a strengths-based approach, but also believes it is important to intervene when she observes unhelpful mindsets and behaviors in sessions. Carly believes that overall, couples therapy should be a positive experience that reminds you why your relationship is worth fighting for. Some of the issues Carly works with when seeing couples and partnerships include concerns about trust, communication, intimacy, parenting, infidelity, sexuality, grief, opening up relationships, and preparation for marriage and other life transitions.
Carly is passionate about working with issues related to sexuality, within relationships as well as with individuals. As a result of societal messages, many people grow up confused and ashamed when it comes to sexuality, and many struggle with talking about sex with partners, or don't know where to go for resources to improve their sex lives. Others may fear that their lifestyles or identities will not be accepted. Carly strives to help everyone achieve sexual fulfillment because she believes it's a healthy and important part of relationships and life. Carly takes a sex-positive, non-judgmental approach- "sexual fulfillment" will look different for every person and every relationship because everyone has their own unique preferences!
Carly completed her degree with a strong focus on sex therapy and is working towards certification. She works in areas such as sexual trauma, body image issues, exploring gender identity and sexual orientation, low desire, difficulty orgasming, sexual dysfunction, navigating poly relationships, dating, and overcoming sexual shame. Carly is kink friendly, LGBTQ affirming, and respects all relationship structures.
